That's very similar to the conversion technique I ue for B+W on shots like this [link] and this [link]

I got it from Scott Kelby's Photoshop book (the guassian blur mask technique is there too)...it's a technique I really like when my RAW converter doesn't give me black and white's that I like.

Great shot, like this a lot
