I like the lone branch too. Some might say it would be better without it, but I think it adds so much more. In this picture though I especially love how the trees seem to be rushing towards the viewer. I love then angle too and how the photo isn't right on. The shadows are amazing as well and how they curve because of the hill :) I like dirty snow too.

Thank you very much.:) I think the gnarled branch is the key element in this image that brings it all together.

Nice idea. But I have to say, that the overall look doesn't work for me. The sun is too close to the border. That single branch is disturbing and that brown snow in the front isn't really appealing to me. At some other place with not that much foreground problems, this would be an excellent shot.
